Caravan Quad

TLDR: It’s great as a big haul everything anywhere wagon!

I have a 1 and 2 year old, and I decided to get the Quad because we will be using this wagon primarily for longer outdoor day trips and want to make sure it will hold the things we want to bring along, as well as be comfortable for the kids.

First impressions: When I first opened the box, my first thought was that it folded more compactly than I had expected. When opened and assembled, it is definitely large. I wouldn’t want to have it somewhere indoors with big crowds. My husband and I were both impressed with the general quality and sturdiness of the frame. It does fold down pretty well if both wheels and all accessories are removed, but this adds a few minutes to setup and pack up.

I am 4’10” and my husband is 6’1” so I liked that it has an adjustable handlebar. From reading reviews in the past I knew it would be hard for me to see over the canopies, but our plan is to use this wagon for longer day trips, so my husband will primarily be the one pushing it.

It’s easy to wheel to the car when in its collapsed position. Surprisingly, it fits (sideways) into our Chevy Bolt (small hatchback) trunk. It also fits, sideways, in our Volvo XC90. For both, we just take the canopies off and tuck it into the folded wagon. There is not much room for anything else when the wagon is in the trunk. I cannot lift it in and out of the trunk easily, but my husband can. It could get even more compact with the wheels removed, but we have skipped this step so far. The parent console and storage bag will need to be removed if they have stuff in them, but if they are empty they will fold up with the wagon.

The buckle mechanism is excellent and easy to use and adjust. it took seconds to get the kids bucked in and on the way and looks like 4 kids truly could fit. Our kids like the option of being side by side or being able to separate and face each other across the wagon.

One thing to note is that the wagon acts as like a sail in the wind. If you are pushing it into the wind it will become significantly harder to push. In deep sand, we were able to pull the wagon almost a quarter mile without too much difficulty with both kids and gear. It was certainly hard but it wasn’t plowing out or getting stuck. Without the kids and just gear, it pulls easily. With one adult pushing from the rear and one pulling from the front, you could for sure get to your desired beach spot! You do have to get under the canopy in order to access the pull bar.

Pros:

  • All wheel suspension
  • Lighter weight than other 4-person wagons
  • Accessories that come standard: parent console, storage bag, canopies, rain cover, cupholder
  • Can flatten out footwell; Footwell piece stores into storage bag when not needed
  • Sturdy frame
  • Good canopy coverage
  • Seats recline easily
  • Fits in trunk

Cons:

  • Hard for short adults to see over canopies
  • Not much storage for passengers (small pockets)
  • Sides are higher than I realized, which is nice to keep the kids safe and contained, but my 1 year old can barely see over the sides and my 2 year old can’t climb in/out by himself yet.
